Godoy’s commitment to embodying Luffy extends beyond performance; he has taken up learning Japanese as a way to honor the culture that produced the beloved series. “I wanted to show my appreciation to the Japanese people,” he remarked, expressing confidence in communicating during promotional events in Japan.
The physical demands of portraying Luffy have also posed challenges for Godoy. He has trained extensively, even learning to perform a backflip, while acknowledging the contributions of his stunt double Cameron Groep. “He is Luffy in the same way that I am,” Godoy stated, highlighting the teamwork involved in bringing the character to life.
