New Owners Bring Fresh Vision to Kiddie Academy of Murphy

The Kiddie Academy of Murphy has welcomed new ownership under first-time entrepreneurs Lidya and Anteneh Abera. The couple acquired the franchise location in June 2025, aiming to enhance early childhood education in the community.

Community Focus and Educational Commitment

Lidya and Anteneh Abera, both former electrical engineers, are passionate about early childhood education. They plan to implement Kiddie Academy’s proprietary Life Essentials® curriculum, designed to exceed Texas state educational standards. This curriculum focuses on nurturing children’s development in a supportive and safe environment.

As parents of three young children, the Aberas understand the significance of a nurturing atmosphere for learning. Lidya stated, “Our passion for education and family inspired us to own a Kiddie Academy franchise where children can thrive.” Their objective is to create a peaceful, home-away-from-home setting for the children in their care.

The Academy, located at 605 E FM 544, is licensed to serve 230 children and currently employs 20 educators. The facility is equipped with 10 spacious classrooms and a large playground area, providing ample space for children to learn and grow.

Community Engagement and Support Initiatives

The Aberas are committed to being active members of the local community. They plan to offer discounts to service members, first responders, teachers, and healthcare workers, as well as participate in local events. This approach aligns with the Kiddie Academy motto: “Community Begins Here.”

Anteneh expressed their vision, saying, “We’ve always wanted to start our own business, and it was important to us that it be family-focused and have a positive impact. Kiddie Academy of Murphy gives us the perfect opportunity to turn that vision into reality.”

Kiddie Academy has been a recognized leader in educational child care since its inception in 1981. The organization, headquartered in Abingdon, Maryland, serves families with children aged 6 weeks to 12 years, offering a range of programs, including full- and part-time care, before- and after-school care, and summer camps.

In addition to its educational programs, Kiddie Academy actively engages in philanthropic efforts, notably supporting the national nonprofit Family Promise. This initiative extends character education beyond the classroom, fostering a sense of community and responsibility.

With over 350 Academies across 40 states and the District of Columbia, Kiddie Academy serves more than 38,000 children. Each franchise operates independently, allowing for unique community engagement while adhering to the high standards established by the Kiddie Academy brand.
