Prime Video has officially announced the revival of the popular sci-fi franchise, **Stargate**, with the creation of a new television series. The project comes from **Amazon MGM Studios**, which holds the rights to the franchise, and will be led by **Martin Gero**, a veteran writer and producer associated with the previous live-action Stargate shows.
In a statement, Gero expressed his excitement about returning to the franchise that played a crucial role in his television career. He noted, “Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a story editor on **Stargate: Atlantis**. I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series. The **Stargate** franchise began with a feature film released in **1994**, co-written by **Dean Devlin** and **Roland Emmerich**, who also directed the film. It expanded into three television series: **Stargate SG-1**, **Stargate Atlantis**, and **Stargate Universe**. Over the years, the franchise has produced two direct-to-DVD films, a short-lived animated series, and a web series in **2018**. The new series marks the first return to television since **Stargate Universe** concluded in **2011**.
