Michigan Residents Urged to Prepare for Health Insurance Enrollment

The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is urging residents to prepare for the upcoming Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment, which begins on November 1, 2025, for coverage in 2026. This advisory comes in light of recent federal changes and the gradual phase-out of certain tax credits that have traditionally assisted many individuals and families in obtaining health insurance.
Individuals are encouraged to gather essential documentation, such as income and tax information, well in advance of the enrollment period. DIFS has committed to providing resources to help residents effectively compare different health plans and understand their options. According to DIFS, significant changes this year include a reduced 90-day window for correcting application errors, the potential absence of premium details for 2026 in some insurer notices, and new requirements for proof of eligibility to secure subsidies.
The enrollment period will conclude on January 15, 2026, but those wishing to have their coverage start on January 1, 2026, must sign up by December 15, 2025.
Resources and Support for Enrollment
To better assist residents, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services has released a video tutorial aimed at guiding individuals through the process of selecting health insurance during the open enrollment. Additionally, free local help is available through trained navigators, who can be reached at 800-318-2596.
These resources can also be accessed online at HealthCare.gov. By taking advantage of these tools, residents can navigate the complexities of health insurance enrollment and make informed decisions regarding their coverage options.
DIFS emphasizes the importance of early preparation to ensure that residents can secure the best possible health insurance plans for their needs in the coming year.
