Remembering Barbara Todd Benson: A Creative Spirit Lost at 77

Barbara Todd Benson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and creative soul, passed away on July 17, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was 77 years old at the time of her death. Born in 1948 in Passaic, New Jersey, Barbara moved to Santa Cruz, California, in 1953, where she would later build a life filled with family and artistic pursuits.

Barbara’s educational journey took her through Scotts Valley Junior High and Soquel High School, graduating in 1967. She furthered her studies at Heald’s Business College, preparing herself for a professional life. In 1989, she relocated to Santa Rosa, California, where she continued to nurture her creativity and family connections.

She is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Patti) Benson, residing in Henderson, Nevada, and Gary (Shannon) Benson in Fresno, California. Barbara’s legacy extends to her five grandchildren: Nicole, Andrew, Lauren, Scott, and Dean, as well as her great-grandson Lukas. She is also mourned by her sisters, Laurie (Greg) from Portland, Oregon, and Nancy (Don) from Watsonville, California, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Throughout her life, Barbara was known for her exceptional talent in various crafts, including sewing, quilting, crocheting, and gardening. Her creativity and skill left behind treasured items that family and friends continue to cherish. Despite her health challenges, including multiple forms of cancer, she maintained a quirky sense of humor and a positive outlook, inspiring those around her.

A private family service is planned to coincide with her birthday in Santa Cruz, where her loved ones will gather to honor her memory. Barbara Todd Benson will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her. In her honor, family members encourage the planting of living memorials or sending flowers.

Barbara’s life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and the importance of family. Her spirit continues to shine through the lives she touched and the memories she created.
