Remembering Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs: A Life of Faith and Service

Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. She was 85 years old. Born on August 25, 1940, in Alhambra, California, Donna was the daughter of Evelyn Farrell and Carl Hoyem. Following the early death of her father, her mother remarried Donald H. Jones, who played a significant role in raising Donna and her siblings.

The family relocated from Alhambra to North Tustin during Donna’s teenage years. She excelled academically, graduating from Mater Dei High School before attending Orange Coast College. Donna dedicated 13 years of her professional life to the Coast Community College District as a student loan and due diligence officer. Upon retiring, she embraced a fulfilling life of travel with her husband, Donald (Don) Babbs, and actively participated in her local community.

A Legacy of Faith and Service

Donna was deeply committed to her Christian faith, which guided her interactions with others. She devoted time to various charitable organizations, consistently seeking to support those in need. Her contributions to the community were both significant and heartfelt, reflecting her compassion and dedication.

Donna is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Lee Babbs, and their three daughters: Leigh Anne Nanci, Kelly Babbs, and Kristal Babbs. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Thomas Nanci; three grandchildren, Joseph Nanci (Kimberly), Jessica Greubel (John), and Johnathan Babbs (Charlotte); and seven great-grandchildren. Donna’s siblings include her brother, Richard Jones, and sisters-in-law, Susan Hoyem, Benita Jones, and Liza (Hoyem) Haynes. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl (Jack) Hoyem and William Hoyem.

Funeral Arrangements

Funeral services will take place at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine, California, on December 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, an interment will occur, accompanied by a reception for family and friends.
