Community Mourns the Loss of Virgil Wayne Whitwell, 84

Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. A resident of Bonne Terre, he was born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis to the late Virgil A. and Veral (Chandler) Whitwell. His life was marked by love, dedication, and a strong connection to family and friends.

A devoted family man, Virgil cherished the time spent with his loved ones, creating countless memories throughout his life. He had a particular passion for classic cars, appreciating both their craftsmanship and the stories behind each vehicle. His enthusiasm extended to his beloved dogs, whose loyalty and companionship brought him great joy.

Virgil dedicated many years of his professional life to Teamsters Local #610, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. His career was a source of pride, showcasing his dedication to service and community.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Patricia O’Brien Whitwell, two grandchildren, Thomas and Timothy Niccum, his brother, John Stallings, and his stepfather, Clete Stallings. Virgil is survived by five children: Vickie Ramsey and husband Rickie, Cheryl Mitchell and husband Dan, Betty Niccum and husband Jody, Michael Whitwell and wife Alicia, and Matthew Whitwell and wife Kristin. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, including Deanna Hite, Paul (Makayla) Ramsey, Daniel (Bree) Mitchell, and many others. In total, he leaves behind twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Arrangements

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge on October 23, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00. The visitation will resume the following day, October 24, 2025, from 09:00 until the funeral service at 11:00, officiated by Pastor Russell Dotson. Interment will take place at Bonne Terre Cemetery.

Virgil’s warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on all those fortunate enough to know him.
