Members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity’s Kansas Epsilon chapter dedicated their weekend to enhancing the historic Red Rocks site in Emporia, Kansas. As part of their annual “Raking Red Rocks” initiative, fraternity brothers participated in a fall cleanup effort at the landmark, which is famously associated with renowned newspaperman William Allen White.
The cleanup took place from November 21 to 23, 2023, although inclement weather forced the cancellation of a planned session on Friday. Undeterred, the group mobilized on Saturday morning, working diligently from 09:00 to 11:30 to make significant progress. A total of thirteen fraternity brothers along with two chapter sweethearts participated in the effort, achieving approximately 70 percent completion of the project during this session.
The remaining work was finished by an additional group of volunteers on Sunday, allowing the fraternity to fulfill their commitment to community service. This initiative is part of Phi Delta Theta’s broader mission to positively impact their local area through volunteerism and civic engagement.
The historical significance of Red Rocks, coupled with the fraternity’s dedication, underscores the importance of community service among college organizations. By engaging in such initiatives, the Kansas Epsilon chapter not only preserves a vital piece of local heritage but also strengthens their ties to the Emporia community.
