Remembering Gwendolyn E. Becker: A Life of Passion and Service

Gwendolyn E. Becker, a beloved resident of Elmhurst, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at the age of 90. Known for her warmth and creativity, Gwendolyn left behind a rich legacy marked by her passions and dedication to education.

Born on July 21, 1935, Gwendolyn was an adventurous spirit with a love for skiing. It was at the Oak Park Ski Club where she met her husband, Richard Becker. The couple shared a deep bond, enjoying many years together until Richard’s passing in 2021 after nearly 50 years of marriage. Gwendolyn’s life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and creativity.

A Passion for Education and Family

Gwendolyn dedicated a significant portion of her life to teaching. She spent many years as a 3rd-grade teacher at Roosevelt and Washington Schools in Elmhurst. After raising her own children, she returned to the classroom part-time, specializing in special education. Her commitment to her students and their families left an indelible mark on the community.

As a mother, Gwendolyn was devoted to her children, Melenie Becker and Eric (Jamie) Becker, and took great pride in her role as a grandmother to Eli and Emmet. She also cherished her relationship with her brother, Harley (Ruth) Collins, and her late parents, Charles and Edith Collins (nee Borgersen).

Farewell and Memorial Arrangements

The community is invited to honor Gwendolyn’s life during an evening visitation scheduled for March 1, 2026, from 16:00 to 20:00 at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, located at 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst, Illinois. A morning visitation will follow on March 2, 2026, from 09:30 to 10:30 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, located at 314 W. Vallette Street, Elmhurst, Illinois. The funeral service will commence at 10:30 at the church, with interment at Elm Lawn Cemetery afterward.
