State Representative Gayle Manning (R-Avon) participated in the launch of the OhioSEE program, which aims to improve children’s vision in the state’s most underserved areas. The announcement was made by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine at the Campus International School in Cleveland, where students in kindergarten through third grade received fitted eyeglasses at no cost.
The OhioSEE initiative targets 15 high-need counties identified by the Ohio Department of Health, where data shows that approximately 80% of children who require vision care do not receive it. This program addresses the significant gap in vision services for young students, providing comprehensive eye exams and glasses directly within their schools.
During the launch event, several students were fitted with glasses provided by Vision to Learn, a vendor partnered with the program. Manning expressed her enthusiasm about Lorain County’s selection as a participant in this pilot initiative.
“I’m so excited that Lorain was selected to participate in this pilot program,” Manning stated. “This will help so many children in our community receive the vision care they need and help with their learning in the classroom.”
The OhioSEE program aims to facilitate access to essential vision services, ensuring that students can fully engage in their education. By bringing these services to schools, the initiative seeks to eliminate barriers that often prevent children from receiving necessary eye care.
