SGMC Health Recognizes Caitlin Edwards with BEE Award

SGMC Health has awarded the prestigious Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award for October 2023 to Caitlin Edwards, a health unit coordinator at the SGMC Health Smith Northview Emergency Department in Valdosta. This recognition celebrates the significant contributions of non-nursing staff who demonstrate outstanding dedication and teamwork in support of nursing teams.

Edwards earned the award for her quick and compassionate response to a patient experiencing severe chest pain. Upon noticing the patient waiting to be registered, Edwards acted decisively, escorting the individual directly into a treatment room to expedite the intake process. Her swift actions led to immediate testing that revealed a life-threatening condition, ultimately ensuring the patient received critical care without delay.

Commitment to Extraordinary Care

According to SGMC Health, Edwards’ ability to recognize the urgency of the situation was vital. Her quick thinking not only expedited the care process but also played a crucial role in the patient’s treatment outcome. The organization noted that such proactive measures exemplify the values embodied by the BEE Award.

The BEE Award is presented each month to non-nursing personnel, including patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants, who demonstrate exceptional commitment and teamwork. Nominees are assessed based on their leadership qualities, positive attitude, and clinical support skills.

SGMC Health operates various recognition programs aimed at honoring employees who reflect the institution’s core values of “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.” These initiatives underscore the importance of teamwork in delivering high-quality healthcare.
