After spending 99 days at the Lorain County Dog Kennel, a shelter dog named Freya is still waiting for a permanent home. The gentle six-year-old has captured the hearts of volunteers who describe her as a sweetheart, with a soft, velvet-like coat and a loving disposition. Freya’s journey has been challenging, having arrived at the kennel on July 16, 2023, suffering from pneumonia due to kennel cough. Thanks to the dedicated care of the staff and volunteers, she has made a remarkable recovery and is now healthy and ready for her new beginning.

Freya’s Resilience and Personality

Freya’s early days at the kennel were marked by shyness and uncertainty, but her spirit has since shone through. She enjoys simple pleasures, such as basking in the sun and snuggling with her human friends. Known for her endearing side-eye and adorable piggy noises when excited, she brings joy to those who take the time to earn her trust. One volunteer expressed her affection on social media, stating, “I adore this lady. She’s calm, quiet, and gentle.”

Freya would thrive in a peaceful home environment, ideally without cats or small animals. While she may be open to having a calm dog companion, her primary need is for a confident and patient owner who understands the importance of giving her time to adjust. Volunteers believe that once Freya feels secure, she will offer her whole heart to her new family.

Adoption Information

Those interested in adopting Freya can learn more about the process by calling 440-326-5995 or visiting the kennel at 301 Hadaway Court, Elyria. The facility operates on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 to 18:00, and Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 to 16:30; it is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and legal holidays. The adoption fee for Freya is $106, which covers vaccinations and a county dog license.

All adopted dogs must be spayed or neutered, and the Lorain Animal Clinic offers free surgical services for those requiring the procedure. Adopters are responsible for a minimal fee of $62 for post-operative care and pain medication. Freya’s wait for a forever home continues, but her resilience and affectionate nature make her a deserving candidate for a loving family.
