Sioux Falls Clothing Drive Seeks Undergarment Donations for Those in Need

In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Indivisible 605 and Remedy Brewing have launched a clothing drive aimed at collecting undergarments for those in need. Running from February 11 to February 22, the initiative addresses a significant gap in typical winter clothing drives, which often overlook essential items like underwear and socks.

While many clothing drives focus on outerwear such as coats, hats, and gloves, organizers emphasize that undergarments are frequently the least donated items. According to Andrew Cedergren, a local organizer with Indivisible 605, “Underwear and socks are the least donated items, so when you are looking to make a big impact, focusing on those items specifically is a good idea to make up that shortfall.”

The drive is taking place at Remedy Brewing, where a donation bin is situated at the back of the brewery. Aaron Nelson, the Event Coordinator at Remedy, noted the uniqueness of this drive, stating, “A lot of people don’t really think about that. People always forget about the undergarments.” The brewery has already filled one donation bin and aims to collect enough items to fill it three more times before the drive concludes.

In addition to the clothing drive, Remedy Brewing will host its Brunch Fest on February 22, starting at 10:00 a.m. Guests are encouraged to attend in onesies, providing a fun opportunity to donate socks and underwear while enjoying breakfast. Nelson expressed optimism about the community’s participation, stating, “If we can empty it about three more times before then, that would be absolutely amazing and help a lot of individuals out.”

Cedergren highlighted the importance of community involvement in such initiatives, saying, “If you’re donating food, money, time, or clothing, it’s just being a part of society, and nowadays it’s more important than ever.”

Both Indivisible 605 and Remedy Brewing welcome continued donations of underwear and socks as they work to support individuals in the community. As the colder months approach, this drive serves as a critical reminder of the essential needs often overlooked in winter preparations.
