Tina Sabol, the community engagement manager for MCDL, emphasized the importance of appointment scheduling. “Appointments are required, and the last one can be made two hours before closing,” Sabol explained. When making an appointment, staff conduct a pre-interview to ensure that applicants are adequately prepared and to address any potential issues. This approach proves particularly beneficial for families dealing with custody or adoption situations where not all guardians may be present.
The application process is streamlined for families. Sabol noted that for a family of four without any complications, the passport application typically takes about one hour. She advised prospective applicants to avoid wearing glasses, hats, and certain clothing items, such as white or camouflage shirts, in their passport photos.

There, applicants can find detailed information on required documents, fees, and even download forms for printing at home. The library is prepared to assist in challenging cases, including those involving infants, which often require extra support from staff to capture the necessary photographs.
In 2025, MCDL issued a total of 3,958 passports, reflecting a slight increase of 1 percent from the previous year. Sabol noted that the library typically processes a higher volume of applications in the first few months of the year, as many residents begin planning their summer travels. For example, in January 2025, the Medina Library processed 255 passports, followed by 191 in February, 228 in March, and 176 in April. As the year progresses, the numbers tend to decline, with 113 in October and 107 in November, indicating a seasonal trend in passport applications.
