Beloved Community Member Carol Stent Passes Away at 86

Carol A. Stent peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada, alongside her husband, David Y. Nakahara. She was 86 years old. Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol’s life was marked by adventure, compassion, and a deep love for her family and community.
A Life Rich in Experience
Carol graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation (SMA). Throughout her life, she maintained strong friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who provided her with a solid foundation in education and values. As the eldest of six siblings, Carol often took on a leadership role within her family, fostering close bonds with her brothers and sisters.
Her quest for adventure led her and four classmates to San Francisco, California, where they all embarked on new careers and found love. Carol’s striking beauty and zest for life caught the attention of Raymond Michael Stent, a young medical intern from England, during his residency at Los Angeles County U.S.C. Hospital. They married at the scenic Wayfarers Chapel and enjoyed a vibrant life together until their divorce in the 1980s.
Commitment to Family and Community
After her marriage to Raymond, Carol found love again with David, an esteemed attorney practicing in Torrance, California. The couple wed on May 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they created a nurturing home, caring for a total of seventeen beloved pets, whom they affectionately referred to as their ‘fur babies.’
In addition to her responsibilities at home, Carol played an instrumental role in supporting David as he cared for his aged parents in their final years. Despite facing her own health challenges, including recovery from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, she remained a source of strength, offering advice and support to those around her.
Carol’s legacy is defined by her unwavering love for all living things, her vibrant spirit, and her profound impact on those who knew her. She is survived by her husband, David; her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina.
“Soli Deo Gloria . . . Only To God the Glory.”
Carol A. Stent’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the joy of shared experiences. Her presence will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
