The Haunted Science Laboratory, a unique educational event, opens its doors to the public on October 25, 2023. Hosted by the Idaho State University Department of Physics and the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello, this interactive experience will take place at the Bannock County Event Center, Commercial Building B, from 4 to 9 p.m.

Visitors can explore a variety of scientific exhibits that aim to entertain and educate. The laboratory features engaging attractions, including a Van de Graaf generator, lasers, and numerous interactive activities. These exhibits not only provide fun but also incorporate scientific principles similar to those found in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, albeit with clear explanations.

“This is a great opportunity to share the wonder of science with your family and have some spooky fun,” said Steve Shropshire, a professor of physics at Idaho State University. He encourages attendees to come in costume, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event.

The entry fee is modest, set at $5 per person or $10 for families (with a limit of six). All proceeds will directly support charities that benefit children in Southeast Idaho, as endorsed by the Kiwanis Club.

For over a decade, the Haunted Science Laboratory has served as a free field trip for local schools before its public opening. In 2024, nearly 2,000 students and adults participated in these educational visits, while the event attracted over 450 visitors during its public hours.

For more information about the event or to address any inquiries, individuals can contact Jasmyne Jensen, administrative assistant for the ISU Department of Physics, at 208-282-2350 or via email at [email protected]. Additional details about ISU’s Department of Physics can be found at isu.edu/physics.

This event promises a blend of learning and Halloween fun, making it an ideal outing for families and science enthusiasts alike.
