Remembering Kathleen Ann Giacalone: A Legacy of Love and Education

Kathleen Ann Giacalone, a beloved educator and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on April 24, 1937, in San Pedro, she was the daughter of Vincent and Antoinette Vitalich. Kathleen spent her later years in Lomita with her husband, Rosario (Jack) Giacalone.

Kathleen dedicated 39 years of her life to teaching elementary school students, leaving a profound impact on the lives she touched. After retiring, she pursued her passion for travel, creating cherished memories with friends and family.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Jack; her daughter, ToniLynn (Tomo) Meek; her son, Paul (Kelly) Giacalone; and her four grandchildren, Tommy, Anthony, Jacquelyn, and Gianna. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her for her warmth and kindness.

In recognition of Kathleen’s life and her commitment to helping others, the family requests donations be made in her name to several organizations: Shriners Children’s, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, and the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild. These contributions reflect her spirit of giving and her belief in supporting those in need.

A Funeral Mass will be held on December 2, 2025, at Mary Star of the Sea Church, starting at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kathleen’s life and legacy during this time of remembrance. Her kindness, dedication, and love for family and education will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
