Remembering Kevin J. McAloon: A Life of Service and Adventure

Kevin J. McAloon, a distinguished engineer and passionate adventurer, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, Illinois, to John H. McAloon and Eileen A. O’Sullivan McAloon, he dedicated his life to both his family and his profession.

After completing his education at Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville, California, and St. Ignatius High School in Chicago, Kevin served two years in the U.S. Army. He pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and a Master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

Kevin’s professional career spanned over three decades in the aerospace industry. He began with Douglas Aircraft and Northrop before spending the last 23 years of his career at TRW, from which he retired in 1992. Following his retirement, he continued to contribute his expertise through part-time consulting roles at TRW and Northrop Grumman for an additional nine years.

Passions Beyond Engineering

Outside of his professional achievements, Kevin was an enthusiastic motorcyclist and runner. He enjoyed both dirt and street motorcycle riding, often embarking on local and cross-country trips with his children. He was also an avid runner, completing four marathons, three of which he ran alongside his son, as well as countless 10K races.

When his running days concluded, Kevin took up cycling, relishing rides on the scenic Palos Verdes peninsula and later exploring the farm roads in the Sacramento Valley, where he developed an interest in farming technology. His zest for life was evident in his various hobbies and the joy he found in nature.

Kevin leaves behind a legacy of love and connection, survived by his four children, including Karen, as well as two grandchildren, Jack and Madeleine, and four nieces and nephews: Jack, Maureen, Jim, and Kathy.

While this obituary reflects the straightforward and economical style Kevin preferred, his family wishes to emphasize the warmth and humor he brought to their lives. They remember him for his wit, charm, kindness, and his deep love of salt, as well as his signature Irish humor.

As they say, may the wind always be at your back, Kevin. You will be deeply missed by all who knew you.
