Arizona Wildcats Secure Former Georgetown LB Cooper Blomstrom

The Arizona Wildcats have bolstered their roster with the commitment of former Georgetown linebacker Cooper Blomstrom. This addition comes as part of Arizona’s strategy to enhance their defensive lineup ahead of the upcoming season in the Big 12 Conference.

Blomstrom, standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 245 pounds, brings significant experience to Tucson. He has one season of eligibility remaining after three successful years at Georgetown, where he participated in 31 games and started 19. During his tenure, he recorded 117 tackles, including 27 tackles for loss, and achieved 16 sacks. Additionally, he forced five fumbles, recovered one, and secured an interception.

A two-time all-conference selection in the Patriot League, Blomstrom previously played on the defensive line for the Hoyas. However, under Arizona’s scheme, he is expected to transition to a linebacker role. This strategic shift could mirror the position played by Riley Wilson in 2025, where he alternated between edge rusher and outside linebacker.

In his final season at Georgetown, Blomstrom excelled, earning First Team All-Patriot League honors. He concluded the season with 47 tackles, including 11.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, along with three forced fumbles. His performance established him as one of the leading defenders in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Arizona’s defensive unit is set to benefit not only from Blomstrom’s experience but also from returning players such as rising seniors Taye Brown and Chase Kennedy. Brown has participated in 24 games, with 18 consecutive starts, while Kennedy made significant contributions in the last seven games of the previous season. Additionally, the Wildcats welcome underclassmen Jabari Mann and Myron Robinson, the latter of whom had a starting position at Cincinnati before sustaining an injury.

The Wildcats continue to enhance their roster through the NCAA transfer portal, with Blomstrom being their third acquisition and the first on defense. The team’s recruitment efforts also include promising incoming talent such as Dash Fifita, the younger brother of Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita.

As Arizona prepares for the challenges of the upcoming season, the addition of Cooper Blomstrom is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening their defensive strategy and overall competitiveness in the Big 12.
