Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Educator Tammy Scott Gill

Tammy Scott Gill, a cherished educator and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on February 7, 1970, in Natchez, Mississippi, Tammy touched the lives of many through her work as a teacher and her unwavering commitment to her faith.

Life and Career

After graduating from Franklin County High School, Tammy pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Valdosta State University. She dedicated many years to teaching at Apostolic Christian Academy in Tennessee, where her passion for education and her kind heart inspired countless students. Known for her warm smile and generous spirit, Tammy was a beacon of positivity for all who knew her.

A faithful member of the First Apostolic Church in Maryville, Tennessee, Tammy’s commitment to her faith served as a guiding light for her and her family. She found immense joy in spending quality time with her loved ones, embodying the values she cherished.

Family and Legacy

Tammy is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Ogle, as well as her loving parents, Wayne and Jo Lynn Scott. She leaves behind her siblings, Brandy (Justin) Montpelier, Jason (Trish) Scott, and Genia (Bryan) Baumgardner, and her children, Alex (Anna) Gill, Samantha (Brandon) Johnson, Miranda (Anthony) Cotten, and Tyler (Elizabeth) Gill. Additionally, she was a caring stepmother to Denny (Ericka) Johnson and Heath (Renee) Johnson.

Tammy’s legacy continues through her twelve grandchildren, including Bailynn, Bentley, Knox, and Emma, as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lamar and Eugenia Scott and Edward and Geneva Harrigill, who undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping her values.

Funeral services will be held under the direction of Laird Funeral Home in Natchez. Graveside services and interment are scheduled for November 18, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Greendale Cemetery in Roxie, officiated by Rev. Curtis Thornton. Serving as pallbearers will be Alex Gill, Colton Gill, Brandon Johnson, Knox Johnson, Anthony Cotten, and Bentley Cotten, with Nolan Johnson and Cayson Gill as honorary pallbearers.
