Glenwood Athletes Shine in Recent Competitions and Events

Glenwood athletes recently received notable recognition for their achievements across various sports, highlighting the talent and dedication present in the community. The Trout Lake/Glenwood volleyball team concluded their season with commendable performances at the District tournament on October 25. Sophomore Jocee Hoctor earned a spot on the All League Second Team, while her teammates, Magdalena Rogers and Iris Deiders, both from Trout Lake, received All League Honorable Mention. Their accomplishments are particularly impressive as they were among the few sophomores to achieve such honors, competing against mainly juniors and seniors.

In basketball, sophomore Wyatt Patterson is preparing for an exciting season ahead with the Klickwood team. Recently, he participated in the World Tribes Invitational Tournament in Las Vegas as a member of the Savage Warriors, an all-star team comprising players from multiple tribes, including Yakama, Coeur d’ Alene, Colville, and Spokane. The Savage Warriors performed admirably, reaching the semi-finals and finishing fourth among several competing teams. This experience has provided Wyatt with lasting memories and friendships.

Cross-Country Achievements

The Glenwood Eagles cross-country team also made headlines this season with outstanding performances by junior Anthony Avila and sophomore Blaine Arnold. Under the guidance of their coach, Aaron Oldenburg, both athletes traveled to various meets, consistently setting personal records. Their season culminated at the District Cross-Country meet in Pendleton on October 31, where both runners achieved their best times of the year. Notably, Anthony set a new school record, marking a significant milestone since the program’s revival a few years ago.

As the Glenwood community celebrates these athletic successes, attention turns to upcoming local events that promise to foster community spirit.

Upcoming Community Events

On November 23, the Klickitat County High School Rodeo Club will host a sale of Christmas swags to support their travel expenses for the ongoing rodeo season. The creative and beautifully crafted swags will be available starting at 10:00 a.m. in both Goldendale and Glenwood. Local rodeo participants, including cowgirls Bailey Rickman and Riley Eichman, will be selling swags on East Main Street in Glenwood.

Later that day, the Glenwood Community Church will hold its annual Community Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner at 4:00 p.m. in the school multipurpose room. The church will provide the main dishes, and attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite side dishes or desserts to share.

Additionally, the festive season is set to shine brighter with the return of the Christmas Light competition, organized by Jennifer Throop. This year, the competition will remain free to enter, with plans for prizes for the top three entries. Jennifer invites community members to contribute prizes or volunteer as judges, emphasizing her goal to make Glenwood even more visually stunning during the holidays.

As Glenwood moves into the winter season, the community continues to support its young athletes and celebrate local traditions. The achievements of these students and the planned events reflect the strong sense of community pride and engagement in Glenwood.
