Mike Tomlin’s wife, Kiya, has publicly thanked the Pittsburgh community following her husband’s resignation as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 13, 2024. In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram Story on January 16, Kiya acknowledged the outpouring of support and tributes from both current and former players who have expressed their appreciation for Mike’s impact over two decades.
Kiya stated, “As many of you are aware, my husband has stepped down from his position as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I want to take a moment to share something from my heart.” She reflected on the profound influence Mike has had both on and off the field, emphasizing the emotional testimonies she has received that affirm his commitment to mentoring young athletes.
During his impressive 19-season tenure, Mike Tomlin led the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory in his second year and has the remarkable distinction of never finishing a season with a losing record. His resignation follows increasing frustration from fans, as the team has not secured a playoff win since 2016.
Kiya and Mike’s relationship dates back to their time at the College of William & Mary, where they met as student-athletes. They married in 1996 and have three children, all of whom have pursued collegiate athletics. Their sons, Dino and Mason, played football at Boston College and Columbia University, respectively, while their daughter, Harley, is currently on the gymnastics team at the University of Georgia.
Kiya expressed pride in Mike’s mission, noting, “His mission began long before the titles and headlines, back when we first met in college, and it has never wavered.” She highlighted Mike’s dedication to helping young men develop into strong individuals, stating, “Coaching and fatherhood became the avenues through which he lived out that calling.” She added that Mike’s true legacy lies in the impact he made on countless young people throughout his career.
The emotional atmosphere surrounding Mike’s departure was palpable, with reports from The Athletic indicating that a Steelers staff member described the team’s reaction as feeling “like a funeral.” Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers was reportedly seen in tears during the announcement.
While Mike’s career has been defined by coaching, Kiya is an accomplished designer and entrepreneur with her own fashion brand, the Coach T Collection, launched in 2025. She stated, “The Coach T Collection was my way of sharing that mentorship with the world — capturing the lessons, discipline, and mindset that shaped so many lives.”
Reflecting on their journey, Kiya expressed her gratitude for the community’s support over the years, saying, “Thank you for your support, your words of kindness, and the warm reception our family has received over the last 19 years.”
As the Steelers now begin the search for Mike Tomlin’s successor, the impact of his leadership and the legacy he leaves behind will undoubtedly be felt in Pittsburgh for years to come.
