Lewis County High School Wrestling Team Secures Third at McFly Invitational

The Lewis County High School wrestling team achieved a commendable third-place finish at the annual McFly Outdoor Invitational held last weekend. This year, the event transitioned from its traditional venue at the Lewis County High School gymnasium to the Battler Center at the now-closed Alderson Broaddus College, reflecting the tournament’s growing popularity.

The Minutemen demonstrated strong performance throughout the competition, concluding the Friday night segment with a record of 4-1. Their victories included matches against Doddridge, Gilmer, Nicholas, and Lincoln, with their only defeat coming at the hands of St. Mary’s. Ultimately, Lewis County finished behind St. Mary’s, which secured first place, and Fairmont Senior, which took second.

Notable Performances and Individual Achievements

Among the standout competitors for Lewis County was Landon Bush, who emerged as the sole champion for the team. Bush went undefeated during the event, claiming the top prize in the 150-pound weight class. Additionally, two freshmen showcased their potential by earning second-place finishes: Landry Cogar in the 175-pound class and Zeke Brown in the 132-pound class.

The team also celebrated several other notable placements. Alek Bragg secured third place in the 106-pound class, while Boe Alton finished sixth. Additional third-place finishers included Wyatt Hurley (113), William Hovis (157), and Alex Nash-Musgrave (285). In the girls’ division, Raigyn Marti performed admirably, taking fourth place.

Rounding out the Minutemen’s achievements were Bruce Rohrbough Jr. (138), Blake Watson (165), and Jaxon Butcher (190), each of whom secured fifth-place finishes.

The tournament received sponsorship from McFly Outdoor, Mountaineer Specialty, and Kaufman Realty and Auctions, contributing to its success and organization. The Lewis County wrestling team’s performance at the McFly Outdoor Invitational not only highlights their dedication and skill but also sets a promising tone for the remainder of the season.
