The analysis, based on Google search data for ski-related terms from November 2024 to 2025, revealed that four of the top ten states for skiing enthusiasm are in New England.
Vermont emerged as the clear leader, recording an impressive 8,709 ski-related searches per 100,000 residents. This figure is more than double that of New Hampshire, which ranked second. The survey highlighted that Killington was the most searched ski resort among Vermont residents, reflecting the state’s strong skiing culture and its renowned alpine and Nordic training schools. Vermont is also poised to send a number of athletes to the upcoming Winter Olympics.
New Hampshire experienced a surge in ski-related interest after Black Mountain announced it would open its slopes on November 15, marking the earliest opening in 91 years. This early announcement likely contributed to the spike in searches for the state as a ski destination.
Massachusetts and Maine rounded out the list, securing the ninth and tenth positions, respectively, further emphasizing New England’s dominant presence in the skiing landscape. The survey also revealed that the term “ski mask” was the most searched gear item, while Colorado was recognized as the overall top ski destination, with Vermont coming in fourth in that category.
