Rivalry Showdowns Highlight Week 9 of Texas High School Football

As the Texas high school football season reaches Week 9, intense rivalries are set to shape the district standings. Key matchups this week will not only affect playoff positions but also offer thrilling encounters for teams and fans alike.
Wakeland and Lone Star Clash for District Supremacy
Frisco’s Wakeland High School and Frisco Lone Star are poised for a pivotal showdown at David Kuykendall Stadium on Friday night. Both teams currently sit at the top of District 5-5A Division I, with Wakeland holding a slight edge as the only undefeated team in the district. Their previous encounter ended dramatically, with Wakeland overcoming a late deficit to win 62-59. Austin Wilson made headlines with a game-winning 100-yard fumble return, marking Lone Star’s first district loss since 2022.
Wide receiver Davian Groce of Lone Star, ranked No. 3 in the Class of 2026, has made a significant impact since returning from injury. In just five games, he has amassed 496 yards and seven touchdowns, showcasing his ability to change the game dynamics.
District 11-6A’s “Battle of the Belt”
In another highly anticipated match, Cedar Hill will face DeSoto in what is famously known as the “Battle of the Belt.” This rivalry has a storied history, with DeSoto leading the series in recent years, having won 11 of the last 16 matchups, including five consecutive victories. The stakes are high as both teams are tied in a four-way contest for first place in District 11-6A, also referred to as the “District of Doom.”
This Friday’s game at Eagle Stadium will determine the trajectory for both teams as they push towards the playoffs. DeSoto’s Ethan Feaster, a wide receiver, has been a standout performer with 773 yards and nine touchdowns this season, averaging roughly 110 yards per game.
Title Race in District 6-6A
The District 6-6A title is also on the line as Allen High School prepares to take on Prosper. Allen defeated Prosper 22-7 in their last meeting, and they are looking to repeat that success this year. Quarterback Braeden Imhoff has been instrumental for Prosper, boasting 1,899 passing yards and 18 touchdowns this season. His performance, alongside contributions from running back Bryce Robinson and wide receiver Lathon Latiolais, who together have scored 22 touchdowns, will be vital for Prosper’s chances.
Meanwhile, Aledo will look to maintain its undefeated status in District 3-5A Division I as they face Richland. Aledo narrowly won their last game 48-42 in overtime, thanks to a decisive touchdown from running back Raycine Guillory.
Other Key Matchups and Playoff Implications
In District 4-5A Division II, Frisco Emerson will clash with Melissa at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium, with playoff implications hanging in the balance. Emerson currently ranks third in the district, trailing Anna and Lovejoy, who are tied for second.
As teams vie for playoff positions and district titles, Week 9 of the Texas high school football season promises to deliver excitement and drama, highlighting the fierce rivalries that define this sport. Fans can expect thrilling performances as players strive to leave their mark on the season.
