The Seattle Kraken secured a 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on March 15, 2024, with standout performances from several key players. Shane Wright led the charge, scoring two goals in a match that marked the Kraken’s bounce-back from a previous loss.
The Kraken, who faced a 4-2 defeat against the Anaheim Ducks just the night before, showed resilience in this game. Alongside Wright’s contributions, Adam Larsson and Vince Dunn each found the net, while Chandler Stephenson and Frederick Gaudreau provided two assists each. In goal, Joey Daccord made a total of 25 saves to help secure the win.
The match began with the Kings taking an early lead through Andrei Kuzmenko, who scored on a power play at 7:42 in the first period. Kuzmenko maneuvered the puck from above the right circle and fired a wrist shot that slipped past Kings’ goalie Darcy Kuemper to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
Just over a minute later, the Kraken responded. Ryan Winterton intercepted a pass intended for Kings defenseman Jacob Moverare and set up Wright, who skillfully pulled the puck to his backhand and scored to equalize at 9:16. The Kraken continued their momentum, taking the lead 58 seconds later. A pass from below the goal line found Larsson, who scored with a one-timer from the right hash marks to make it 2-1 at 10:14.
The first period remained intense, and the Kraken extended their lead at 15:21. Dunn, driving through three Kings players, scored another goal with a backhand shot that went between Kuemper’s pads, pushing the score to 3-1.
In the second period, Kuzmenko struck again, scoring his second goal of the night with a power-play one-timer at 10:27, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Yet, the Kraken regained control in the third period when Wright scored his second goal on the power play at 5:50, increasing their advantage to 4-2.
The Kings attempted to mount a comeback, but their efforts were hampered when forward Adrian Kempe received a double-minor penalty for high-sticking with 4:21 remaining. The Kraken capitalized on this opportunity, maintaining their lead as the game concluded.
As the Kraken head into a three-week Olympic break, they will be looking to build on this victory. Meanwhile, the Kings will face the Vegas Golden Knights in their last game before the break, hoping to reverse their recent trend of three losses in four games.
