Space City Home Network (SCHN) has officially launched its new streaming application, SCHN+, allowing fans to watch the Houston Rockets and Houston Astros directly from their devices without the need for a cable or satellite subscription. This significant development comes after the Rockets and Astros were the only teams in the NBA and MLB, respectively, without a direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming option.
The SCHN+ app is now accessible on web browsers at SCHNPLUS.com, alongside platforms such as iOS, Android, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV, with additional platforms expected to be introduced soon. The app features comprehensive programming from Space City Home Network, including live coverage of Rockets games (subject to territorial restrictions), Astros games, behind-the-scenes content, and on-demand programming.
Jim Colasanto, General Manager of Space City Home Network, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “We’re excited to make Space City Home Network even more accessible to fans with the launch of SCHN+. Our goal has always been to deliver the highest-quality viewing experience and give the best access for Houston Astros and Houston Rockets fans. The launch of our direct-to-consumer app marks a major step forward in how fans can connect with their favorite teams.”
Fans can subscribe to SCHN+ for $19.99 per month or $199.99 annually (plus tax). For those who already have Space City Home Network through a participating cable, satellite, or streaming provider, there will be no additional charge to access the new app.
The launch has garnered positive feedback from team officials. Patrick Fertitta, Alternate Governor of the Rockets, noted, “We’re thrilled to offer another great option to ensure fans have access to watch games. The SCHN+ streaming app makes it easier than ever to cheer on the Rockets. Providing fans with a convenient way to watch their favorite teams, along with our network’s award-winning programming, was an essential addition.”
Similarly, Jim Crane, Owner and Chairman of the Astros, emphasized the importance of accessibility, stating, “The Astros are always committed to delivering a best-in-class fan experience, and we are excited that the SCHN+ app will now provide Astros fans another way to watch baseball from their favorite team. We want to make it accessible to as large an audience as possible as we continue to grow the game. We are looking forward to the 2026 season and more Astros fans watching our players compete for another championship.”
SCHN+ is currently available to customers in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and select counties in New Mexico, including Dona Ana, Eddy, Lea, Chaves, Roosevelt, Curry, Quay, Union, and DeBaca.
Space City Home Network operates as a joint venture owned by the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets, serving as the exclusive local television home for both teams. The regional sports network was established following the purchase of AT&T SportsNet Southwest from Warner Bros. Discovery in September 2023, marking a new era for sports broadcasting in the Houston area.
