Barbara Meyer, 78, Passes Away; Services Confirmed for January 9

UPDATE: Barbara Ann Meyer, aged 78, of Forney, TX, has tragically passed away on January 3, 2026. This news comes as a deep loss for her family and community, highlighting her dedication to family and service.

Barbara was born on October 22, 1947, to Jimmie Peter Mikulenka and Mildred Agnes (Samora) Mikulenka. She was a proud graduate of St. Joseph High School, Class of 1965, and later attended Baldwin Business School. Her professional journey began with Dewitt County Health and Human Services before she transitioned to the Victoria County Social Security Office as a Claims Specialist.

In August 1972, Barbara married Carl Meyer and continued her career at the Houston Social Security Office. After welcoming her daughter, Stephanie, and son, Kevin, the family relocated to the Dallas area, where she served as an Administrative Assistant in the IRS Criminal Investigation Department. Barbara later became the secretary for Greenland Hills United Methodist Church in Dallas until her retirement.

Following her retirement, Barbara found immense joy in being a grandmother to Owen and Zeke, dedicating her time to their care. She loved family vacations at the beach and cherished moments with loved ones. Her legacy of love and devotion will resonate with those who knew her.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Whisenant (Adam) of Forney, her brother, Jimmie Don (Verlene), and her sister, Gayle Parenica (Ronnie) of Victoria, along with her beloved grandchildren, Owen and Zeke Whisenant. She is also remembered by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Kevin Meyer, her former husband, Carl Meyer, and her brother, Kenneth Mikulenka.

Visitation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2026, followed by a Rosary at 7:15 p.m. at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on January 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum, with Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Yoakum.

Pallbearers will include Adam Whisenant, Owen Whisenant, Zeke Whisenant, Ronnie Parenica, Wesley Mikulenka, and Tyler Paschal. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
