BREAKING: A man was arrested for armed robbery after stealing a cash register from a 7-11 convenience store in downtown Boston early this morning. Police responded to a call just after 5 a.m. on July 14, 2023, regarding a breaking and entering at 50 Summer St..
Upon arrival, officers found the store’s front glass door shattered and the cash register missing. While speaking with a store employee, police spotted a suspect matching the description across the street.
According to the Boston Police Department (BPD), when officers approached the suspect, later identified as Michael Waterman, 40, he resisted arrest and threatened to kill the officers. “After multiple de-escalation tactics, the suspect was handcuffed, and the stolen merchandise was recovered,” the BPD stated.
Waterman is currently charged with multiple offenses including larceny from a building, armed robbery, and assault with a dangerous weapon. His address is listed as the Southampton Street Shelter in Roxbury.
This incident is part of a busier than usual period for Boston police, who responded to 96 incidents in the previous 24 hours, including one robbery, three aggravated assaults, and various thefts.
