Branson Girls Volleyball Defeats Redwood, Prepares for Title Rematch

UPDATE: The Branson School girls volleyball team has just secured a spot in the North Coast Section Open Division championship after a commanding victory over Redwood High School, winning in straight sets: 25-12, 25-17, 25-21. This decisive win, achieved on November 5, 2025, sets the stage for a highly anticipated rematch against Marin Catholic on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Branson outside hitter Ella Tsai expressed the team’s determination to defend their title, stating, “It’s something that we feel like belongs to us and we don’t want to see anyone else take it.” The Bulls (19-7), ranked No. 4, showcased their skills against Redwood, avenging a previous five-set loss during the regular season.

The Bulls jumped out to an impressive lead early in the match, propelled by strong service runs from Abby King and Blake Cussen. “We really want to defend it,” Tsai said, emphasizing the team’s fiery motivation. The victory sends them into the final against No. 2 Marin Catholic (25-6), a rematch of last year’s championship.

Branson’s coach, Michelle Brazil, praised her team’s versatility, with four players registering at least nine kills. Tsai led the charge with 14 kills, followed by middle blocker Ellie Corsello with 11. The Bulls’ ability to diversify their attack proved crucial in maintaining pressure on Redwood.

The match, held at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California, saw Branson quickly establish dominance, leading 8-3 and then 17-5 in the first set. The Giants, coming off a first-round bye, struggled to find their rhythm, prompting questions about their recent inactivity. “I think it does matter even though I bet they had intense practices,” noted Branson libero Lucy Tusher, who contributed significantly with 13 digs.

In the second set, Redwood attempted a comeback, briefly leading 4-1. However, Branson regained control, ultimately taking a commanding 2-0 lead into the third set. Redwood fought back valiantly, tying the third set at 14-14 and maintaining leads at 16-15 and 20-19. Yet, a critical error allowed Branson to capitalize, winning the final four points to secure their championship berth.

As the excitement builds for Saturday’s final against Marin Catholic, both teams will look to bring their best. This marks the third encounter between these rivals this season, with Branson previously winning in straight sets earlier in October.

The match promises to be a thrilling showdown, as Branson aims to continue their dominance and solidify their legacy in the North Coast Section volleyball scene. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops!
