Carroll Community College Foundation Leader Retires After 24 Years

BREAKING: Carroll Community College has announced the retirement of Steve Wantz, the executive director of the college’s foundation, after nearly 24 years of dedicated service. This significant transition is set to impact students and the community as the foundation has grown dramatically under his leadership.

Wantz, a Carroll alumnus and first-generation college graduate, joined the college in 2002 following a successful 26-year career in financial services. At that time, the Carroll Community College Foundation managed less than $750,000 in assets. Thanks to Wantz’s vision and leadership, that figure has skyrocketed to over $36 million, funding scholarships, academic initiatives, and vital capital projects.

The impact of Wantz’s leadership is profound. During his tenure, the foundation completed four major fundraising campaigns, each surpassing its goals. The latest campaign, titled Turning Hopes and Dreams into Reality, raised a record-breaking $14.46 million for scholarships, campus improvements, and workforce development programs.

In addition to significant financial growth, Wantz initiated several long-lasting programs, including the President’s Society, the Joseph F. Shields Legacy Circle, and the Starry Night Gala. This gala alone has generated more than $2 million for scholarships over the past two decades, making a lasting difference in the lives of countless students.

“Steve’s leadership has transformed what is possible for Carroll and its students,” said Carroll Community College President Rosalie Mince in a recent statement. “His ability to connect people to our mission has built not only financial strength, but also trust, pride, and a shared purpose that will endure for decades.”

In recognition of his extensive contributions, Carroll Community College has awarded Wantz the esteemed title of emeritus, one of the highest honors bestowed by the institution. This acknowledgment reflects the immense impact his leadership has had on the college and its community.

As the college prepares for this transition, the focus will now shift to finding a successor who can continue Wantz’s legacy of growth and community engagement. Stakeholders and alumni alike are keenly interested in how this change will affect future initiatives and support for students.
