BREAKING: A nursing home worker has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing from an elderly resident at Providence Rehabilitation Center in Yeadon. The incident, which has raised significant concerns about the safety of vulnerable individuals, involves Charlene Eady, 55, who faces multiple charges including theft and unauthorized use of an access device.
According to an urgent release from Yeadon Police Chief Henry Giammarco Jr., authorities were notified on October 20, 2023, regarding a missing debit card belonging to a senior resident. The victim, who depends on the facility’s staff for daily care, reported that her credit cards had vanished, and unauthorized transactions were made using her account.
Following a comprehensive investigation led by Detective Leah Cesanek, it was revealed that Eady had allegedly made numerous unauthorized purchases across various locations in Chester utilizing the stolen debit card. Chief Giammarco described this crime as “deeply disturbing,” emphasizing the betrayal of trust involved when a caregiver exploits their position.
“Senior citizens residing in nursing homes rely on caregivers for protection and dignity,” Giammarco stated. He added, “As a community, we have a responsibility to uphold the safety and well-being of our elderly residents.”
Eady was arraigned before District Judge Keith Williams II and is currently held on 10 percent of $5,000 bail, which she was unable to post. She is now in Delaware County prison awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 9, 2023.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have indicated that more charges may be filed as they uncover additional evidence. Giammarco praised the diligent work of Officer William McCollum and Detective Cesanek for their thorough investigation, which has brought this disturbing case to light.
As this situation develops, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving their loved ones in care facilities. The safety of our elderly population must remain a top priority, and any breaches of trust by those in a position of care will be met with serious consequences.
