Dave Kirk Confirmed as New President of Owensboro Chamber

UPDATE: In a significant leadership transition, Dave Kirk has been officially named the new president of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, effective December 8, 2023. Kirk, a dedicated community leader and Owensboro native, succeeds Candance Castlen Brake, who has held the position since March 2015.

Kirk’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the Chamber, which currently boasts 988 members, the highest number in over a decade. The announcement highlights Kirk’s extensive experience, having served as the destination management director for the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau since 2018. “I’m honored to be selected,” Kirk stated, emphasizing his commitment to serving both members and the wider community.

The Chamber’s board of directors, led by chairwoman Olga McKissic, conducted a rigorous national search that attracted 70 applicants. McKissic affirmed Kirk’s selection, stating, “He stood out above all the rest,” recognizing his prior volunteer work with the Chamber and familiarity with its culture.

Kirk expressed his gratitude towards Brake, acknowledging the high standards she set during her tenure. “Candance has set the bar very high. They’ve done incredible work,” he said. His immediate goals include boosting the Chamber’s membership, aiming to surpass 1,000 members as soon as possible.

Visibly emotional, Kirk reflected on his journey, stating, “I love Owensboro. It’s exciting to watch it grow.” His wife, Jessica Kirk, a former executive director of Leadership Owensboro, shares his passion for community development. They are parents to three sons and have deep roots in the area.

Mark Calitri, president of the CVB, praised Kirk’s accomplishments, stating, “I am incredibly proud of Dave. He has absolutely earned this opportunity.” Calitri anticipates a collaborative future where the Chamber, CVB, and the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corp. work hand in hand to drive economic growth.

Kirk’s extensive background includes a journalism degree from the University of Kentucky and experience as a television reporter. His community involvement includes serving on the Advocacy Committee and facilitating key events like Owensboro Day in Frankfort. He led the Chamber Young Professionals’ relaunch, growing participation from eight to over 150 members.

As Kirk prepares to take office, the community eagerly anticipates his vision for Owensboro’s future. He plans to listen to both members and nonmembers, aiming to understand their needs and enhance engagement with the Chamber. “We have to go get it,” he said, reinforcing his commitment to making Owensboro’s voice heard at local and state levels.
