Doo Dah Parade Canceled, Fans Celebrate with Alternative Event

URGENT UPDATE: The beloved Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena has been officially canceled for this year, but fans are rallying for a lively alternative celebration on Sunday, Nov. 23. Dubbed a “two-part celebration of music, mayhem, and merriment,” the event promises to keep the Doo Dah spirit alive despite the absence of the traditional parade.

Festivities kick off at the Dog Haus Biergarten on Big Bang Theory Way from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring “Doo Dah’s Big Bang!” This alley-side cabaret will showcase a mix of Doo Dah legends and intriguing newcomers. Attendees can look forward to live music, performances, and the iconic antics that have marked the Doo Dah legacy.

The highlight of the day will be the tryouts and crowning of the Doo Dah Queen, taking place from noon until 3 p.m.. Everyone—yes, even unconventional entries—are welcome to participate in this quirky contest. As the day unfolds, the excitement will transition to a 21-and-over after-party at the Old Towne Pub, featuring the energetic Grateful Get-Down led by Ashton Slater.

The Doo Dah Parade, which began in 1978 as a humorous alternative to the more traditional Tournament of Roses Parade, has been a staple of Pasadena’s cultural landscape. Past parades have included memorable performances like the “Revenge of the Baby Seals,” where participants donned seal costumes for a comedic take on environmental issues. While recent years have seen fluctuations in attendance and organization, the team behind the Doo Dah Parade is determined to revive the event for next year.

This year’s alternative gathering not only honors the parade’s legacy but also fosters community spirit among its dedicated fans. With a mix of celebration and nostalgia, attendees are set to enjoy a day of laughter and creativity that embodies the essence of the Doo Dah Parade.
