Exail Launches Advanced Steering Console for South Korean Submarines

UPDATE: Exail has just announced the production of a critical steering console for South Korea’s next-generation diesel-electric attack submarines, enhancing the Republic of Korea Navy’s deep-sea warfare capabilities. This sixth control module is part of the JangBogo III program, also known as the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho class vessels.

The new steering console, which consolidates navigation, propulsion, and control systems, is set to bolster maritime defense strategies. Exail’s production effort underscores the urgency of improving naval technology in response to evolving global threats. The construction of this advanced system will begin in 2026, with commissioning planned for 2027.

Why This Matters Now: As geopolitical tensions rise, the South Korean Navy is prioritizing advanced technology to ensure its operational readiness. Each steering console represents nearly two years of rigorous development, marked by collaboration across Exail’s electronics, software, mechanical, and integration teams.

Mohammed Tounsi, Product Manager at Exail, emphasized the complexity of this undertaking: “Building a steering console is both a technological and human challenge. Each delivery demonstrates the excellence of our expertise and the dedication of our teams.” The fourth pilot station was successfully commissioned in July 2025, validating the interfaces with the submarine’s systems and confirming the robustness of the solution.

Exail has previously delivered five complete consoles since 2014, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner for international navies. With 15 pilot stations currently operational globally, Exail is committed to providing long-term support and integration for its systems, ensuring naval forces can maintain autonomy and mission safety.

The steering console is not merely a control device; it is a strategic asset that enhances tactical efficiency and operational capabilities. As nations invest in their defense infrastructure, Exail’s innovations are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of undersea warfare.

Watch for further developments as Exail continues to revolutionize submarine operations, reinforcing global maritime security in an increasingly complex environment.
