This recognition highlights Castellano’s exceptional performance, averaging 19.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.4 steals this season, positioning him as a key player in the Skippers’ impressive journey.
Fairport, boasting a remarkable record of 21-2, prepares for a crucial D-VII district final on March 7. Castellano’s talent is a significant factor in the team’s success, contributing to the Skippers’ only losses against Riverside and Glenville. The team also celebrates Dustin Ettinger, who received the coach of the year honor in Division VII, one of four area coaches recognized for their exceptional leadership.
The local basketball scene saw additional accolades with Josh Jakacki of Kenston earning coach of the year in Division III. His team, the Bombers, holds a 20-3 record, featuring a massive 14-game win streak in the middle of the season. The Bombers have four players averaging double figures, showcasing a balanced and potent offense.
In Division V, David Bargar of Chagrin Falls shares the coach of the year honor with Jeff Holzhauer of Keystone.
