Fatal Crash on I-85 South Claims One Life, Major Traffic Delays
UPDATE: A tragic early morning crash on I-85 South near Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte, North Carolina has resulted in one confirmed fatality, as reported by the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency (Medic). Emergency crews were alerted to the scene at approximately 2:25 a.m., where they pronounced the individual dead upon arrival.
The crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. and involved no other injuries that required hospital transportation. However, the incident led to significant traffic disruptions, with the southbound lanes near Exit 37 remaining closed for nearly 2.5 hours.
Local authorities responded swiftly, but the aftermath caused severe congestion that persisted until the highway reopened around 5 a.m.. The North Carolina Department of Transportation confirmed that the closure affected the stretch near mile marker 36, close to the Brookshire Boulevard exit.
“Officials closed the southbound lanes past Exit 37 for approximately 2.5 hours while emergency crews responded to the scene,”
