Owner Jennie Kwon expressed her desire to help, stating, “People who are furloughed… they don’t know where their next meal could be coming from.”

Ekiben, located in Fells Point and South Baltimore, is providing free meals with no questions asked. Co-founder Ephrem Abebe noted the importance of supporting federal workers who are also valued customers, emphasizing, “Maryland has an incredible amount of federal workers.”

At Rasa, which operates in Rockville, D.C., and Virginia, furloughed employees can enjoy a “shutdown bowl” for just $10. Co-founder Sahil Rahman highlighted their commitment to the community, saying, “We can’t wait to see you soon.”

In Columbia, Eataliano Market and Deli is offering a 20% discount to furloughed workers presenting a government ID. The restaurant stated, “When times get tough, community matters most.”

Meanwhile, honeygrow is providing a 20% discount across its 14 Maryland locations. Their message is clear: “Politics might be sticky — your noodz shouldn’t be.”

Thompson Restaurants, which includes popular spots like Matchbox, is extending a 20% discount on in-store bills for all government employees showing their ID. Their Instagram post read, “This one is for you Government Employees, we are here to support you during this time.”

In addition to these restaurant offerings, Baltimore boasts emergency food resources through the Bmore Community Food Network, which maintains food fridges around the city. There are also 66 locations providing community resources for those facing food insecurity.
