Giant Pumpkins Race at Oregon’s 2025 Regatta – Costumes and Fun!

UPDATE: The 2025 West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta made a splash in Tualatin’s Lake of the Commons on Sunday, drawing enthusiastic participants and spectators. Dressed in creative costumes, boaters paddled giant, hollowed-out pumpkins in a unique race that showcased both skill and fun.
Participants took to the water in their Halloween costumes, with some donning outfits as colorful as Captain America and Guy Fieri. The event, which celebrates its 21st year, emphasizes not only speed but also the challenge of keeping the pumpkins afloat.
Among the standout participants was Parker Johnson, who won the costume contest dressed as the Very Hungry Caterpillar. “I was just chatting with my family about ideas, and my dad thought of the caterpillar eating its way out of the pumpkin,” he shared with Nexstar’s KOIN. “It was really fun!”
The regatta, held on October 19, 2025, featured pumpkins supplied by the Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers. Each paddler was chosen through a lottery system, receiving a giant pumpkin, a paddle, and a life vest for the race.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and adhere to costume guidelines, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere. The mix of competition and creativity created a vibrant community event that has become a staple in Portland.
As the event continues to gain popularity, it’s clear that the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta is not just about racing; it’s about bringing people together for an unforgettable experience. Attendees are already looking forward to next year’s festivities, which promise even more excitement and innovation.
This year’s regatta highlighted the uniqueness of community events that blend competition with creativity, making it an essential part of Portland’s cultural landscape. Stay tuned for more updates as we cover the aftermath of this exciting event!
