Holy Family Haven Opens 72 Affordable Apartments in Clarkston

BREAKING NEWS: Clarkston has just welcomed its newest affordable housing complex, Holy Family Haven, providing 72 affordable apartments for families in need. The complex, located at 1411 Port Drive, was officially opened during a ceremony attended by city leaders, community members, and representatives from Catholic Charities Housing.
Excitement filled the air as students from Holy Family Catholic School showcased their artwork and contributed to the grand opening. Their creative input inspired the name of the complex, underscoring the community’s commitment to providing safe housing. Jonathan Mallahan, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing, expressed his gratitude for the students’ involvement, stating, “It was so nice to have all of the Holy Family students there to celebrate the grand opening.”
The event featured a blessing by a priest and was attended by key figures including Clarkston’s Mayor Monika Lawrence. In her remarks, Lawrence emphasized the importance of the project, praising John Pilcher, executive director of the Horizon Housing Alliance, for delivering a “top-notch housing project.”
Currently, half of the available units are already occupied, with families actively moving in. Mallahan reported that 30% of the units remain available, encouraging families who meet the income requirements to apply. Housing is aimed at families earning between 30% to 60% of the area’s median income, with a portion set aside for those who have experienced homelessness.
Holy Family Haven is not just a shelter; it is a community. The complex will provide a “robust suite” of support services, including mental health counseling, substance abuse recovery, transportation to medical appointments, and employment assistance. The goal is to create a foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives.
KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment has backed the project with $31.4 million in capital. The support extends beyond housing, with plans for distributing fresh, healthy food to residents.

This development represents a significant step towards addressing housing needs in Clarkston, making an immediate impact on the community. Families now have a chance to secure a stable home and access vital resources for their future. As the community comes together to support this initiative, the hope is that Holy Family Haven will be a beacon for change and opportunity.
