Jacksonville Shelter Sees Surge in Dachshund Adoptions Thanks to TikTok

UPDATE: A remarkable surge in dachshund adoptions is erupting at Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) as a local TikTok creator fuels the excitement. Over 70 dachshunds are expected to arrive, with 16 already on-site, and a free adoption promotion is in full swing to help these lovable dogs find their forever homes.

The influx of these adorable “wiener dogs” began after a breeder overwhelmed by unexpected circumstances reached out for assistance. ACPS Chief Michael Bricker confirmed that the breeding arrangement exceeded the breeder’s capacity, prompting urgent action from the shelter. The response was swift, with approximately 10 dachshunds adopted almost immediately and another six placed with rescue organizations.

A pivotal role in this heartwarming story comes from Bethany Michel, a Jacksonville TikTok creator. Her viral video showcasing the newly arrived dachshunds has amassed over 1.5 million views, amplifying awareness of the shelter’s needs. “I made that video just to kind of spread awareness especially because they had an influx coming in,” Michel stated, reflecting on the overwhelming response. “Never in a million years did I expect to get a million and a half views.”

The excitement surrounding these dachshunds has become so intense that ACPS has posted a sign informing the public that no dachshunds are currently available for adoption. Chief Bricker highlighted that the attention generated by the dachshunds has also benefited other animals, leading to an additional 20 to 25 dogs being adopted during this period.

Looking ahead, ACPS anticipates the arrival of another 30 dachshunds next week, with potential for even more shortly thereafter. To keep the community informed, ACPS is actively utilizing its social media platforms, particularly Facebook, to announce upcoming dachshund availability. The shelter is committed to ensuring potential adopters stay updated on this influx.

In conjunction with this exciting news, ACPS is running a free adoption promotion throughout the month as part of its “clear the cages” campaign. This initiative provides an excellent opportunity for families to welcome new furry companions into their homes.

Additionally, adoptable dogs will be showcased during the Jacksonville Jaguars game this weekend at their “tailgate” event, offering yet another platform for these animals to connect with loving families.

The swift adoption rates highlight the impact of social media on animal welfare initiatives and the community’s passion for helping pets in need. This story serves as a powerful reminder of how local efforts, combined with the viral nature of platforms like TikTok, can lead to extraordinary outcomes for animals awaiting homes.

Stay tuned for more updates on dachshund availability and other exciting events at ACPS as they continue their mission to find loving homes for all animals.
