Jason Lewis Shines with 3 Touchdowns as North Torrance Dominates
UPDATE: In a thrilling performance, Jason Lewis scored three touchdowns to lead North Torrance to a commanding 48-14 victory over South Torrance in a Pioneer League clash on Friday night. This decisive win comes as North Torrance (6-3, 2-2) steps up after losing starting running back Jaydan Andrade to injury earlier in the week.
Lewis rushed for 60 yards and showcased his determination, igniting the team’s offense in the second half. “We had a rough first half, but then we came out in the second half after a good speech by my boy, Luca (Galdamez),” Lewis said. “We need to lock in. No more playing around.” His words resonated, propelling the team to score on every possession after halftime.
The game shifted momentum when Steven Sarabia powered through the Spartan defense on their first drive of the third quarter, scoring from the 1-yard line to cut the lead to 27-14. This set the stage for Lewis’s subsequent touchdowns, including a crucial 17-yard run that extended the lead to 48-14 with just 8:53 left in the game.
Coach Todd Croce expressed pride in the team’s second-half execution, stating, “It was nice to see the offense come out and score on all possessions.” Alongside Lewis, quarterback Ethan Edwards contributed significantly, throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Kchole Mataele-Juarez and securing two interceptions on defense against South’s quarterback, Chase Spahr.
Despite the loss, Spahr, who leads the Pioneer League in passing, managed to score an 8-yard rushing touchdown and connected with Jacob Kerekes for a 21-yard touchdown pass, showing resilience in a challenging game. “Their d-line was pretty active,” Spahr noted, acknowledging the Saxons’ defensive strength.
For South Torrance (3-6, 0-4), coach Matt Mishler highlighted the challenges of fielding a thin roster of just 33 players, which affects performance, especially in the second half. “We didn’t really have much life in the second half,” Mishler admitted.
This emphatic win positions North Torrance for the upcoming games, with momentum on their side as they aim to capitalize on this victory. The team’s ability to adapt and overcome adversity will be crucial as they continue their season.
Stay tuned for more updates as North Torrance looks to build on this success in their next match.
