Joel Embiid Set to Return for Sixers’ Opener Against Celtics

UPDATE: The Philadelphia 76ers have confirmed that Joel Embiid will make his highly anticipated return in the season opener against the Boston Celtics tonight at TD Garden. This marks Embiid’s first regular-season game since February 22, 2023, following two surgeries on his left knee over the past 14 months.
Embiid, who stands at 7 feet 2 inches and weighs 280 pounds, played just 19 games last season before undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on April 11. His return is a crucial moment for the 76ers, who are hoping to turn around after a challenging previous season.
Earlier this week, Embiid played a strong performance in the final preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, contributing 14 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in just over 18 minutes of play. He participated in full practices leading up to the game, confirming his readiness.
“I’m excited to be back and ready to contribute to my team,” said Embiid.
In contrast, Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers will not be playing as he recovers from surgery on his left knee. Additionally, the Celtics are facing their own injury challenges, with Jaylen Brown listed as questionable due to a strained left hamstring. Star player Jayson Tatum is expected to miss the entire season after suffering a torn right Achilles tendon during the playoffs.
This season opener is set to kick off at 7:30 PM ET, and the stakes are high for both teams. Fans are eager to see how Embiid’s return will impact the 76ers’ season as they aim for a more competitive run.
Stay tuned for live updates and analysis as this exciting matchup unfolds, and see if Embiid can help lead the 76ers to victory against their storied rivals.
