John A. Pickar, Beloved Community Figure, Passes Away at 62

BREAKING NEWS: John A. Pickar, a cherished community member from Duluth, Minnesota, has sadly passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62. His family announced the news today, confirming that John died on October 14, 2025, just 11 days after celebrating his birthday on October 3.
John was a prominent figure in the community, known for his work with Great Lakes Office Solutions and his active participation in the Rotary Club. His dedication to service and leadership has left a lasting impact on many. “He made a friend everywhere he went,” said a close family member, emphasizing how John could light up any room with his infectious humor.
John’s love for life was evident in his passions—he enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing, with special memories formed during fishing openers spent with friends. His time at the deer shack in Finland, filled with laughter and reflection, was among his most cherished moments.
Survived by his mother, Peg Pickar, and siblings Christine Beck, Bruce (Amber) Pickar, and Andrew (Kate) Pickar, he also leaves behind a legacy of love through his nieces and nephews: Joshua (Desiree) Butler, Arelle Kauffman, Danyell (Andrew) Cameron, Josie Pickar, Elise Pickar, and Frances Pickar. John was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Pickar.
A proud member of the Beer Can Collectors of America, John was also an avid collector of memorabilia, showcasing his zest for life and appreciation for history. His faith played a vital role in his life, guiding him as he touched the lives of others through kindness and genuine conversation.
