URGENT UPDATE: Kansas State freshman Linkon Cure is making waves in the college football scene despite early setbacks. The young athlete, who hails from Goodland, Kansas, is determined to shine as he embraces the challenge of playing for the Wildcats.
Linkon Cure, ranked as the No. 30 overall player in the 2025 class by 247Sports, is on a remarkable journey that many would only dream of. With an impressive high school resume boasting 1,049 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns, Cure’s trajectory is reminiscent of an inspiring sports film. His versatility is evident, having also rushed for 208 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season.
Cure’s accomplishments extend beyond the gridiron. He is a two-time state champion in track and field, setting a state record in the 110-meter hurdles with a stunning time of 14.36 seconds. His athletic prowess has made him one of the most complete multi-sport athletes in Kansas, competing fiercely in basketball as well.
Despite receiving offers from prominent schools like Kansas, Oregon, and Texas A&M, Cure chose to pursue his lifelong dream at Kansas State. “It’s a dream come true,” he expressed, highlighting the significance of this opportunity.
However, Cure’s path has not been without obstacles. He opted to finish his high school basketball and track seasons, leading to a delayed arrival at Kansas State. Shortly after joining the team, he suffered a knee injury, which compounded the challenge of transitioning from small-school football to the competitive environment of the Big 12 Conference.
Due to depth at the tight end position, coaches shifted Cure to wide receiver, requiring him to learn two positions simultaneously. “It’s been rough,” Cure admitted. “But it shows a lot about my perseverance, and I just think that it’s been a lot of fun. I love being out there.”
Head coach Chris Klieman acknowledged the uphill battle Cure faces, emphasizing the importance of acclimating to the rigorous demands of college football. “When you come in as highly touted as he, and the expectations, those are hard for a young person to handle coming in here,” Klieman stated.
Initially, Cure spent time on the scout team, quietly working to adapt to the Power 4 level. Klieman remains optimistic about Cure’s future potential, affirming, “Sky’s the limit for him still.” Despite the challenges, Cure believes that the experience gained from practicing as a receiver will ultimately enhance his skills as a tight end.
Reflecting on his remarkable journey, Cure shared, “I sat there as a kid watching, and now I have the ability to do it. It’s been awesome. It’s just been a dream come true.”
In just seven career games, Cure has recorded five receptions for 32 yards and played a season-high 21 snaps in the Wildcats’ recent victory over Oklahoma State.
