Logan Cooley Shines as Mammoth Win Sixth Straight, 6-2
BREAKING: The Utah Mammoth extend their winning streak to six games with a commanding 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Saturday night. Logan Cooley was the standout star, scoring twice within the first 3:29 of the game, demonstrating his incredible skill and quick scoring ability.
Just 56 seconds into the first period, Cooley struck first, backhanding the puck out of midair past Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson to establish an early 1-0 lead. His second goal followed shortly after on a power play, putting the Mammoth ahead 2-0 at the 3:29 mark.
The Mammoth didn’t hold back, quickly making it 3-0 when Nick Schmaltz found the net just under five minutes into the game for his sixth goal of the season.
Despite the tough start, Wild veteran Marcus Johansson made a valiant effort to bring his team back into contention, scoring twice. He netted his first goal with 4:21 left in the first period, converting a one-timer from Zeev Buium. Johansson’s second goal came late in the second period on a power play, reducing the deficit to 3-2 just eight seconds before the end of the period.
The Mammoth, however, responded decisively. JJ Peterka extended the lead to 4-2 with 6:23 remaining in the third period, followed by another goal from Schmaltz, bringing his tally to 2 for the night and 7 in his last five games. An empty-netter from John Marino sealed the victory with just 5.1 seconds left on the clock.
Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka was impressive, making a total of 32 saves throughout the match, showcasing his skill and determination.
The Mammoth are set to attempt to extend their winning streak to seven games against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. This latest victory marks not only a strong performance from Cooley and Schmaltz but also highlights the Mammoth’s growing momentum as they push through the season.
Fans are eagerly anticipating what comes next as the Mammoth continue to dominate on the ice. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story!
