BREAKING: Marjorie Sack Hobday, a cherished resident of Burnt Hills, NY, has passed away peacefully at the age of 95. She died at her home on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and community involvement.
Marjorie was born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, and was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Florence Sack. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack. Her family describes her as a pillar of strength and creativity who touched the lives of many.
A graduate of local schools including St. Agnes and Burnt Hills High School, Marjorie later attended Skidmore College. Her passion for music flourished throughout her life, as she and Richard were active members of various musical organizations, including the Schenectady Choral Society and Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. They lent their talents to numerous church choirs, creating a harmonious presence in the community.
Marjorie’s life was marked by resilience, shaped by her experiences as a child during the Great Depression. She was known for her resourcefulness, often crafting and sewing for her family. Her love for gardening brought beauty to her home, while her summers spent at a camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir were filled with cherished memories of nature and family bonding.
The couple’s love story began at a square dance where they first met, leading to a lifetime of shared passions, including writing and painting. For over 40 years, they hosted an annual Holiday Art Show Open House, showcasing their artistic talents and fostering community connections.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Gordon, and daughters, Wendy and JoAnn, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family, friends, and community remember her for her grace and the warmth she brought to all aspects of her life.
A Mass in her honor will take place on November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, all are invited to a reception in the church hall. Marjorie will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the church cemetery.
