Mary Ingleby, Beloved Educator, Passes Away at 75 After Alzheimer’s Battle

URGENT UPDATE: Mary Ruth Ingleby, a cherished educator and advocate, has passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on October 15, 2025, following a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Ingleby, who dedicated her life to teaching and uplifting those around her, was surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments.
Born on June 22, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Ingleby was the third child of Don and Lavon Ingleby, growing up in a family of six children. Despite facing hardships, including the adoption of her first child at the age of sixteen, Ingleby transformed her experiences into a passion for nurturing young minds, becoming a beloved figure in early childhood education.
She earned her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Cabrillo College and spent decades teaching children ages three to five. Her legacy includes not only her second son, Damian, who developed a lifelong love for reading, but also countless children who thrived under her guidance.
A resident of Santa Cruz for over 53 years, Ingleby’s love for the ocean and her compassion for animals defined her vibrant spirit. She was an active supporter of various causes, advocating fiercely for those marginalized in society. Her passion for music enriched her life and the lives of those around her, as she participated in multiple choirs and musical duos, filling her home with melodies.
In a poignant turn of fate, Ingleby was able to reconnect with her first child, Bill, later in life. Their reunion brought joy and significance to her years, although it was tragically cut short by his passing in his mid-30s.
Ingleby is survived by her son, Damian, and her younger sister, Colette. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at a memorial gathering on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 12 PM, at Seacliff State Beach. For more details, please contact 406-552-9696 or email [email protected].
The legacy of Mary Ingleby will continue to inspire those who knew her, reflecting a remarkable life dedicated to education, compassion, and community. Share this tribute to honor her memory and impact.
