Medford Man Pleads Not Guilty to Child Sexual Abuse Charges

UPDATE: Jimmy Harry Velasquez-Gomez, a 44-year-old man, has just pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of child sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of children. This shocking development took place at First District Court in Central Islip, NY on Sunday, as authorities reveal alarming accusations against him.

Velasquez-Gomez is currently being held on $50,000 bail for each felony charge. He stands accused of inappropriately touching three young girls, aged 9, 7, and 11, during separate incidents at the T.J. Maxx store in Medford. Prosecutors allege that in October, he squeezed the buttocks of a 9-year-old girl while she was shopping with her family.

The defendant’s defense attorney claims that Velasquez-Gomez has resided in Suffolk County for the past five years, despite prosecutors indicating his residence is in Honduras. His criminal history includes a previous conviction for public lewdness.

Detectives are urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact the Special Victims Section at 631-852-6184.

Laura Ahearn, executive director of the Crime Victims Center, expressed the gravity of the situation, stating,

“It’s shocking to parents and really startling to a child or a teenager who has no understanding of what’s happening.”

Shoppers outside the T.J. Maxx store shared their concerns, emphasizing the importance of vigilance while shopping with children. Many reported that they keep a close watch on their kids, especially in crowded environments.

Ahearn further cautioned,

“Be vigilant. Don’t let your child or teen walk around the store unaccompanied because sexual predators are looking for that opportunity.”

As this case develops, it raises significant concerns over child safety in public spaces, prompting parents to rethink their shopping habits. Stay tuned for more updates as authorities continue their investigation into Velasquez-Gomez’s alleged actions and the impact on the community.
