Micro Farm Reopens in Altadena After Eaton Fire Devastation
URGENT UPDATE: A beloved micro farm in Altadena has reopened its doors to the community after suffering devastating losses during the Eaton Fire last year. The Chavez family, who had to evacuate their home with over 70 animals, is now welcoming visitors to experience their farm, Experience Fable, once again.
The reopening marks a significant milestone for the family, who found refuge for their animals across various locations, including Venice Beach and the LA Equestrian Center. “We literally had turkeys in the carport and on the side of her condo,” said White Chavez, reflecting on the chaotic evacuation. Most of the animals were saved, and now they are back, bringing life and joy to the farm on Loma Alta Drive.
Thanks to a $10,000 grant from LISC LA’s Wildfire Relief Grant program, supported by Wells Fargo, the family has been able to rebuild crucial infrastructure, including new fencing and a dedicated space for their animals. “That grant came at the perfect time,” White emphasized, noting how the funds have helped them recover from the fire’s destruction.
Experience Fable is committed to connecting with the community, with plans to open once a week for small local groups while they search for a more permanent location. “This is home. Somewhere here in the foothills, nature, a beautiful place,” White stated, expressing a hopeful vision for the future.
The reopening of Experience Fable not only symbolizes resilience but also offers a chance for the community to reconnect with nature and support a local family rebuilding their livelihood. As the Chavez family continues to navigate this challenging journey, they remain focused on creating a welcoming environment for visitors to interact with their animals, including chickens, sheep, goats, and more.
As the farm gradually reestablishes itself, the community can look forward to regular visits, fostering a sense of hope and recovery in the aftermath of the devastating fire. This is a developing story, and further updates will follow as the Chavez family continues their rebuilding efforts and community engagement.
Stay tuned for more on this inspiring journey of recovery and resilience as Experience Fable opens its gates once again in Altadena.
